This One’s for the Girls

Thank you is a phrase that gets thrown around a lot. Sometimes it’s sincere and sometimes it’s just an immediate reaction. For now, I’d like to focus on giving sincere thank yous to the amazing women in my life who have each left their mark on me in their own way.

My Best Friends:

5-Soulful-Ways-To-Support-Your-Best-Friends

You know who you are. You’ve given me an awesome taste in music, a shoulder to cry/laugh on, someone to talk to for an hour on the phone with and the reassuring advice that only best friends can give. I want you all to know that you’re everything to me. I can’t picture my life without the laughing attacks over absolutely nothing, the knowing what you’re thinking from just a glance or the long talks about our lives over wine. So, thank you for being you! Thanks for being there. Thanks for being my people.

First off, there are so many of you, which is awesome because it’s makes me feel like I belong to a small girl gang. I love that even though we all live miles away from each other that I get to be a part of your lives. Thank you for your generosity and for being awesome role models. You’ve taught me to love my roots and to value family, which is something that I cherish and that keeps me going. Thank you for making me feel so loved and much like a gang, I always have people who’ve got my back.

Grandma(s):

So, I know this slightly strips away some of the sentiment of this post, but it's too funny not to post.

I’ve been lucky enough to know and love two amazing grandmothers and a great-grandmother. I feel so lucky being surrounded by such wise women who’ve taught me how far wit, poise and hard work can get you. Having generations of strong women related to you, pretty much gives you no excuse not to strive for excellence. So, thank you for passing down a strain of neurosis that has made me care and fight for what I want. Thank you for setting the bar high and for fostering the strength in me to climb towards this metaphorical bar everyone refers to.

My Sister:

So apparently I was a diva from an early age. But, here’s a cute pic of me and baby sis.

You are awesome. I love you like crazy and sorry for fulfilling the snotty older sister stereotype. But, seriously though, you are brave, kind-hearted and inside and out (and i’m not just saying that). You are such a cool person and being away from you only makes me see that more. If anything I hope you know how important you are to me. So thank you for always thinking I’m cool, even when I’m being an asshole. Your undying support means the world to me. I love you.

My Mother:

Ok, so at this point I’ve already sobbed my eyes out, because for some reason I felt the need to share what I’m feeling today…but for this one, words really can’t do my mother justice, so I’m going to keep it short. You taught me everything I know. You’ve made me who I am. You are my favorite human being. I love you. Thank you for everything.

And thank you, readers for letting me be sappy. Maybe it’s the cold/rainy weather, but I’m in a sentimental kind of mood. So, just remember to say thank you to who you really mean it to.
